Peru, Ill.-based St. Margaret's Health, which closed in January 2023, might not reopen this year as planned as bankruptcy proceedings drag on, local news outlet WCBU reported Aug. 15.

Los Angeles held its spot as the most expensive U.S. city to construct a general hospital in the second quarter of 2023, with other cities not far behind. 

The University of Texas System announced plans to build two hospitals as part of the University of Texas at Austin Medical Center, a new, comprehensive cancer center operated by MD Anderson and a specialty UT Austin hospital, with an estimated price tag of $2.5 billion. 

The CVS Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CVS Health, donated $1.66 million to Boston-based Massachusetts General Brigham to improve Black maternal health outcomes.

Houston-based Nutex Health, a micro-hospital network, plans to open one to two more microhospitals this year and 14 more by the end of 2025.

Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth is building a 300,000-square-foot facility in Central Florida that will have supplies for the health system's hospitals and care sites throughout the state. 

Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours and HCA Healthcare clashed during an Aug. 10 meeting to navigate Virginia's approval process for competing plans to develop emergency centers in the same county, according to richmondbizsense.com.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C., was approved for its $246 million Greensboro, N.C., hospital by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ certificate-of-need division, Triad Business Journal reported Aug. 8.

Health systems in Minnesota, California and Florida opened up new hospitals.

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, the largest operator of hospitals in the country, is further developing its presence in Virginia with plans to add to its capacity at the Richmond-based Johnston-Willis hospital, according to an Aug. 9 Richmond BizSense report.

Pensacola, Fla.-based Baptist Health Care is on track to welcome its first patients in September at the system's new $650 million Brent Lane campus, four years after the project was first started.

The expansion and modernization project at Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center Sameth Emergency Department is on schedule and expected to be completed in 2024. 

El Segundo, Calif.-based Pipeline Health is welcoming its first patients to a new inpatient behavioral health unit at its Coast Plaza Hospital in Norwalk in Los Angeles county.

Kaiser Permanente is opening its new San Marcos (Calif.) Medical Center on Aug. 9, a 206-bed hospital that brings 1,000 jobs to San Diego County.

Texas Children's opened a new $245 million medical tower as it converted a former Baylor College of Medicine clinic into a 190,000-square foot women's health tower, Houston Business Journal reported Aug. 7.

Little Rock-based Arkansas Children's received its largest donation, a $25 million gift from the Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Foundation, to fund expansion projects and create an endowment.

A Hollywood actress and her husband donated $7.5 million to Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital for its addiction clinic.

Phoenix-based Banner Health expanded its use of Medaptus' infusion RCM software to 19 more facilities.
