Nursing Union Slams Stanford Hospital's New Contract Terms

Following a year-long contract dispute between the nursing union and hospital, officials at Stanford Hospital & Clinics in Palo Alto, Calif., will impose new contract terms for the 2,700 employees represented by the Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.

While hospital officials say the terms are fair and will help improve patient care, the president of CRONA, called the decision "a declaration of war" and a "blatant attempt to try and force us to accept a bad contract," according to the report.

The new terms include a new career advancement system, which requires nurses to meet certification and education requirements to maintain or achieve high-level positions, as well as extended sick and bereavement leave benefits. Paid time off will also be aligned with what other hospital employees receive, according to the report.
