Open Health Market, a website that was founded to serve as a "matchmaker" between self-insured businesses and healthcare providers, expects to post its first requests next week, according to a Boston Globe report.
Open Health Market was founded in 2011 by a California physician, a New Hampshire lawyer and a Maine benefits manager. The company was designed to cut out the middleman by allowing employers to submit requests for proposals for a category of medical services and procedures. Healthcare providers would then submit bids and compete for the employer's business.
In the next week, 30 Texas corporations that spend more than $1 billion collectively on healthcare for more than 100,000 employees will post their requests on Open Health Market, according to the report.
