Cone Health Plans to Submit New Application for NC Surgery Center

Cone Health, based in Greensboro, N.C., plans to submit a new application to develop an ambulatory surgery center at its MedCenter High Point (N.C.) facility, according to a Business Journal report (subscription required for full access).

In 2011, State regulators denied a certificate of need application by Cone Health to add a $10.7 million joint-venture ASC to MedCenter High Point. The 12,000-square-foot facility would have been called Triad Surgery Center and feature three ORs.

The state rejected the application on grounds that the new surgery center is not necessary due to declines in surgery service demands and enough available operating rooms. The project faced objections by a number of competitors.

Cone Health appealed this denial, but has dropped its appeal and now is planning to submit an application for a new three-OR ASC.
