Virginia Gay Hospital to join National Rural Accountable Care Consortium

Vinton, Iowa-based Virginia Gay Hospital announced it has joined the National Rural Accountable Care Consortium, an organization that helps rural hospitals participate in the accountable care model.

ACOs must care for a minimum of 5,000 beneficiaries to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. The National Rural Accountable Care Consortium, which serves more than 30 communities in nine states, helps small, rural hospitals combine to create a collaborative ACO and satisfy requirements in a cost-effective way.

As part of the program, Virginia Gay Hospital will install a care coordinator to help patients, especially elderly patients, navigate the healthcare system. The program also aims to improve quality, increase patient satisfaction and promote population health and wellness.
