Boston Medical Center - 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare | 2014
Type of company: Hospital/health system
Meet the organization: Boston Medical Center is the 496-bed, nonprofit teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine that includes more than 5,000 employees. The hospital's staff demonstrated their commitment during the Boston Marathon bombing last year, as the hospital took in 23 patients from the marathon and supported their colleagues in the aftermath. The hospital held BMC Strong: A Program of Hope & Healing, where employees could come together, reflect on the tragedy and support each other. On the six-month anniversary of the bombing, BMC held a forum for staff to gather and assess its collective healing process.
Added benefits: Employees receive 33 days PTO upon employment. They also have access to free yoga classes, a farmer's market in the summer and fall, a pet visitation program for patients and staff and 50-percent tuition discount if they pursue a healthcare-related master's degree at Boston University. The hospital also promotes diversity through its gay/straight alliance, multicultural week, women's networking group, military-connected employees group and young professionals group.
