Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center (Richmond). The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center's cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiology divisions provide care through the medical center's Pauley Heart Center. More than 30 board-certified cardiologists practice at the center. The VCU Pauley Heart Center adopted its current name in 2006, after receiving a $5 million donation from the Pauley Family Foundation. U.S. News & World Report named Virginia Commonwealth No. 49 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery, and ranked the hospital No.1 overall in the state for 2015-16. Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington). Virginia Hospital Center was named to the Truven Health Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals list for 2015. In 1964, the hospital established the first coronary unit in its area and the third overall in the nation. Two decades ago, the hospital developed one of the area's first cardiac rehabilitation programs. Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute's physicians offer care for a multitude of cardiovascular conditions. In 2013, the heart program became the first in the state to implant the HeartWare ventricular assist system as a bridge to transplantation, just months after the system received FDA approval. U.S. World & News Report ranked Vanderbilt as the No. 1 hospital in the state, as well as No. 34 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery for 2015-16.The American Nurses Credentialing Center also recognizes Vanderbilt as a Magnet hospital.
