Covered California enrollment up 23% in 2017

The number of California residents who have enrolled for plans on the Covered California insurance exchange in the first two weeks of enrollment is up 23 percent compared to one year prior, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Nearly 48,000 people signed up for plans from Nov. 1 to Nov. 14, up from 39,000 during the same period in 2016. The average cost of premiums offered on Covered California is up 12.5 percent compared to one year prior.

The enrollment period in California is 12 weeks, twice as long as the 6 week enrollment period for the federal healthcare exchanges.
