Indiana insurer drops out of ACA exchanges

Nonprofit insurer Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana in Fort Wayne has decided to stop selling individual plans on the Affordable Care Act exchanges next year, The Journal Gazette reports.

PHPNI said its decision to drop individual plans will spare the insurer from millions of dollars in losses, according to The State. Four other insurers in the Fort Wayne area will sell individual products on the exchange in 2017.

The insurer will continue to offer small group plans both on and outside of the ACA exchanges.

The coverage change affects 6,000 PHPNI customers.
