Express Scripts President: 'We don't intend to lose Anthem'

Although health insurer Anthem is suing Express Scripts for approximately $15 billion in hopes of gaining more savings on prescription drug medications, Express Scripts is not giving up, according to the Indiana Business Journal.

"We don't intend to lose Anthem," said Express Scripts President Tim Wentworth, according to the report. "We'll get through this. We think we have done a great job for Anthem."

Mr. Wentworth will take the helm as Express Scripts' CEO in May. He added that so far, the company hasn't received many client questions about the lawsuit, according to the report.

Anthem believes it is paying Express Scripts too much for prescription medications and is hoping for the right to terminate its relationship with the company. The health insurer claimed Express Scripts "has deliberately delayed the repricing for months" and "refused to negotiate, let alone in good faith," according to the legal complaint.

But Express Scripts has denied the claims. "Express Scripts values its relationship with Anthem and will continue to honor its commitments under the contract," said company spokesman Brian Henry, according to the report. "Express Scripts has consistently acted in good faith and in accordance with the terms of its agreement with Anthem."

Mr. Wentworth is unsure how long it will take to settle the controversy.
