Patients can now use Facebook to raise money for medical bills

Facebook has expanded its charitable giving tools to allow users to raise money to cover unexpected expenses, including medical bills, according to SFGate

Facebook's fundraising campaigns were previously only available to nonprofits and other charitable organizations, but now any user who is at least 18 years old can set up a campaign to raise money for expenses that fall into one of the following eight categories: 

1. Education
2. Medical
3. Pet medical 
4. Crisis relief
5. Personal emergency
6. Funeral and loss
7. Sports
8. Community

Facebook takes a $0.30 fee and 6.9 percent from all donations to cover payment processing, security and fraud protection and fundraiser vetting, according to the report.
