Massachusetts
As of Sept. 29, 33 employees and 12 patients related to the cluster of cases in two medical-surgical units at Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital had tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital said in a news release. Brigham and Women's said all current inpatients are being tested, and this will occur every three days. The hospital also requires testing for patients upon admission and daily screening for symptoms.
New York
Three employees at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown tested positive for COVID-19, allotsego.com reported Sept. 29. Hospital spokesperson Karen Huxtable-Hooker said the hospital learned of the incident Sept. 25, and it appears the employees contracted the virus outside of work, according to the report.
Washington
A surgical services team member at Coupeville-based WhidbeyHealth tested positive for COVID-19, according to a Sept. 27 community update on the organization's website. Hospital officials said the individual tested positive after contracting COVID-19 outside of work and is self-quarantining at home. They said WhidbeyHealth has contacted everyone affected, and elective surgeries and nonurgent visits to the surgery, obstetrics and orthopedic clinics, are postponed until Oct. 7.
California
Nineteen patients at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital are under quarantine after they were exposed to an employee who tested positive for COVID-19, radio station KCBS reported. Hospital officials told the station no patients who were exposed to the virus had tested positive as of Sept. 25.
Maine
Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville said Sept. 19 that two of its employees tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Press Herald. The employees are among 10 staff who were quarantined after they were directly or indirectly exposed to a COVID-19 patient.
Hawaii
Eight employees at Straub Medical Center in Honolulu tested positive for COVID-19, Hawaii News Now reported Sept. 18. Virginia
Twenty-four environmental services employees at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital recently tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review Sept. 18. West Virginia
About 100 employees were sidelined from Charleston Area Medical Center as of Sept. 18 because they either tested positive for COVID-19, were asked to quarantine by the health department due to COVID-19 exposure, or are caring for family members, CEO David Ramsey told TV station WCHS. He estimated there were 40 positive employee cases as of Sept. 18.
Hawaii
An employee at Leahi Hospital in Honolulu tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital confirmed Sept. 16 to TV station KHON 2. The employee reportedly last worked in the nursing unit on Sept. 4, and a positive test result came back on Sept. 15.
Hawaii
An emergency room physician at Kohala Hospital in Kapaau tested positive for COVID-19, prompting testing for potentially exposed patients and employees and infection prevention deep cleaning protocols, the hospital announced Sept. 12. Josh Green, MD, who was working in the 28-bed hospital's ER Sept. 5, 6 and 7, disclosed his positive test result Sept. 11.
Wyoming
An employee at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital announced Sept. 10. Sweetwater County Public Health Director Kim Lionberger told Sweetwater Memorial it has contacted every patient the employee had contact with, and no quarantines were required. This is the 14th employee to test positive since the pandemic began.
Kentucky
Since March, about 60 employees of Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown have been quarantined for testing positive for COVID-19, employee health manager Melissa Griffin told The News-Enterprise Sept. 10. Ms. Griffin told the newspaper employees are quarantined after exposure, and those who test positive must have two negative test results before returning to work.
Washington
A COVID-19 outbreak at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle was linked to four employee infections and one patient infection, The Seattle Times reported Sept. 5. Spokesperson Gale Robinette told the publication the outbreak is connected to an individual who visited the patient, and all patients and workers on that floor were tested, with no new cases found.
Pennsylvania
Ten patients and eight workers at First Hospital in Kingston, Pa., tested positive for COVID-19, the Times Leader reported Sept. 4. Hospital spokesperson Annmarie Poslock told the publication patients and workers were being tested through a process that began Sept. 2.
Connecticut
A COVID-19 outbreak at Hartford HealthCare's Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn., was linked to a person from a local nursing home, Donna Handley, hospital president, confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review. The outbreak originated in a specific unit at the hospital. As of Sept. 4., nine workers connected with the hot spot tested positive.
Pennsylvania
Several Wellspan York (Pa.) Hospital workers tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson confirmed Sept. 3 to Fox 43. The spokesperson, Ryan Coyle, did not disclose the specific number of infected employees, but said the hospital contacted the state health department and has coordinated efforts to prevent additional spread.
California
A COVID-19 outbreak at Santa Rosa (Calif.) Memorial Hospital was linked to at least 17 employee infections, The Press Democrat reported Sept. 1. Santa Rosa Memorial has about 2,000 employees.
