Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health has raised its minimum wage in North Carolina from $11 per hour to $12.50 per hour.
The change, announced Aug. 21, affects 5,000 employees.
"Novant Health is dedicated to caring for our communities, starting with our own team members," the system's CEO, Carl Armato, said in a prepared statement. "After our initial living wage adjustment last year, we recognized we had an opportunity to further invest in our team members as they continue to provide outstanding and compassionate care and service to our patients."
Novant said it implemented the $11 per hour minimum wage last year based on local costs of living beyond the state-mandated minimum wage. According to the system, the updated minimum wage represents about a $4 million investment in employees.
