Healthcare job growth continues; hospitals add 6.2K jobs in May

Healthcare added 28,900 jobs in May, with hospitals contributing 6,200 to that total, according to the latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This compares to the 24,400 jobs the industry added in April. It is also about in line with the average gain per month over the prior 12 months, according to the BLS.

Within healthcare, ambulatory healthcare services showed the most employment growth last month, adding 17,900 jobs. Hospitals added 6,200 jobs in May compared to the 8,000 they added in April. Nursing and residential care facilities gained 4,800 jobs last month.

Overall, the U.S. added 223,000 jobs in May.
