Geisinger expands parental leave for employees

Anne-Marie Kommers -

Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System will provide up to two weeks' paid leave for employees who are new parents, according to Pennlive.com.

The new policy will take effect Sept. 1 and applies to mothers and fathers of newborns, adopted and foster children, as well as employees who become the guardian of a child. The paid leave will be available to both parents for couples who work for Geisinger. Full- and part-time employees must have worked at Geisinger for at least six months to be eligible.

Less than 15 percent of U.S. hospitals offer such leave, according to Geisinger.
