Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health revealed Feb. 6 it will spend $19 million to finance wage increases for more than 15,000 employees.
The compensation investment primarily applies to nurses and workers in nursing support roles.Inpatient nurses will see a 5 percent increase, on average, while workers in other eligible nursing support roles will see an increase between 2 percent and 5 percent. Atrium expects to implement the raises by the end of March.
"Our Atrium Health nursing team represents some of the finest healthcare professionals in the country, and this increase is a demonstration of our continued commitment to those who provide exceptional care to our patients, families and communities every single day," Maureen Swick, PhD, MSN, RN, system nurse executive for Atrium Health, said in a statement.
This is the latest pay increase implemented by Atrium Health. Last July, the system increased pay for 9,000 nurses the same day the Charlotte-area minimum wage increase to $12.50 took effect. The regional minimum wage increase affected more than 7,500 Atrium employees.
Nearly all Atrium Health employees received a performance-based incentive payment, wage increase or pay adjustment in 2018.
Atrium is one of the largest employers in the Charlotte area with more than 35,000 workers in that region.
