69% of healthcare leaders hire for workplace culture fit, poll finds

Bringing employees aboard who fit into their workplace culture tops the priority list of most healthcare leaders reviewing potential hires, according to the Medical Group Management Association's most recent  Stat poll.

The April 30 poll asked nearly 1,400 medical practice leaders about what is most important when hiring staff.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents chose "cultural fit." This was followed by "previous experience" (13 percent and "technical competency" (9 percent).

The rest of the respondents (9 percent) chose "other."

The association asked respondents who reported "other" to elaborate.  According to the association, they responded: “all of the above are important”; “character, attitude and personality”; "the intangibles — work ethic, problem-solving, adaptability”; and "hungry, humble, smart.”
