10 hottest metro areas for jobs in 2020

The Fargo, N.D., metropolitan area is the hottest job market in 2020, according to jobs marketplace ZipRecruiter.

The finding is based on ZipRecruiter data about U.S. metropolitan areas with more than 100,000 residents. To identify the hottest job markets in 2020, ZipRecruiter examined four factors in each metropolitan area: job market size, job market growth, median annual wage on offer in job postings and average number of job openings per job seeker. Percentile rankings for the factors were then averaged and used to compare overall job market hotness in each metropolitan area. 

The 10 hottest job markets in 2020, according to ZipRecruiter:

1. Fargo, N.D.

2. Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, Mass.

3. Sioux Falls, S.D.

4. Providence-New Bedford-Fall River, R.I.- Mass.

5. Portland-South Portland-Biddeford, Maine

6. San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, Calif.

7. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, District of Columbia-Va.

8. Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, Pa.-N.J.-Del.

9. Bismarck, N.D.

10. New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, N.Y.-N.J.
