Greater Hudson Valley Health System Slashes 140 Positions

Middletown, N.Y.-based Greater Hudson Valley Health System is laying off the equivalent of 140 full-time positions from two hospitals.

Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown will see the equivalent of 80 full-time positions cut, and Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, N.Y., will lay off the equivalent of 60 full-time workers. Combined, the cut positions account for 5 percent of GHVHS' total workforce.

Scott Batulis, president and CEO of GHVHS, blamed the layoffs on the sequester and other reimbursement reductions.

The system is offering career counseling to the affected employees and will help research career options within the system and at other healthcare organizations in the area, according to the news release.
