Nurse drops racial discrimination suit against California hospital

A Latina nurse dropped a racial discrimination lawsuit against Pasadena, Calif.-based Huntington Hospital, her former employer, Jan. 13, reports Pasadena Now.

Martha Beltran, RN, started working at Huntington Hospital as a housekeeper in 1984. She went on to pursue an education in nursing and worked as a registered nurse at the hospital from 2001-03 before becoming a charge nurse and nursing instructor.

The lawsuit, filed in December 2018, claimed that managers demonstrated racial discrimination against black and Latino employees. Ms. Beltran also alleged she was fired in January 2018 on false claims of unprofessional conduct.

Lawyers for Ms. Beltran filed court documents requesting a dismissal of her case last week. It is unclear whether Ms. Beltran settled with the hospital — which denied any wrongdoing — or dropped the case for other reasons.
