“On November 4, CRMC had over 20 patients waiting to be admitted to CRMC’s inpatient units who were being boarded in our emergency department,” said Cheyenne Regional President and CEO Tim Thornell in a statement. “This morning CRMC had 11 patients being boarded in our emergency department waiting for an inpatient room.”
The contingency plans allow the hospital to surge beyond normal capacity.
Emergency department wait times for patients experiencing less acute conditions have increased, according to the statement.
Mr. Thornell said he expects the situation to be short-lived, however, officials there are “cautiously planning” for an extended period of high patient volumes.
