Stephanie Lay said hundreds of the letters were sent to her son, who receives treatment for severe autism, but were addressed to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in Cincinnati, Ohio. The official Maine website lists the DHHS’ location as Augusta, Maine.

The letters were for denied claims she did not make, and many of them said UnitedHealthcare denied $54, or $0. The claims date back to 2016.

UnitedHealthcare said it is looking into the mailings.
