Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville). VUMC includes an 850-bed hospital and psychiatric hospital, in addition to a 267-bed children’s hospital. Its 10 million square-foot campus includes a comprehensive cancer center, Level I trauma center, Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, a dedicated regional burn center and the only comprehensive solid organ transplant center in Tennessee. The academic medical center currently has more than 1,160 residents in training and is committed to research and innovation. In 2016 it received its largest ever grant of $71.6 million to support a precision medicine study of how genes, environment and lifestyle can affect patient health. U.S News & World Report ranked VUMC No. 1 in Tennessee for 2016-17.
