University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Says It’s on the Road to Recovery

A top official at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics said it will be able to survive the recession now that it has shed 676 positions and cut expenses, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Vice President for Medical Affairs Jean Robillard said the hospital still finished fiscal year 2009 in the red and must cut $17 million by the end of FY 2010, but it is now well positioned to meet future financial challenges.

For example, The hospital is discussing adjustments to its planned outpatient clinic, such as leasing rather than owning buildings.
