University of Chicago Medicine. Since it opened in 1927, University of Chicago Medicine has expanded to include an 805-bed medical center, children’s hospital, the Pritzker School of Medicine and a biological sciences division. The academic medical center boasts 12 past Nobel Prize winners and ranks nationally in four specialties by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17. It earned an A grade for safety from Leapfrog in fall 2016 and was designated a Most Wired Hospital in 2016. However, University of Chicago Medicine still keeps its focus close to home. Through an ACO, its Urban Health Initiative and other outreach programs, University of Chicago Medicine is dedicated to improving health within its community.
