University of Arizona Medical Center and Physician Group to Merge

University Medical Center Corp., which operates University Medical Center in Tucson, will merge with University Physicians Healthcare, which operates the physician practice of the University of Arizona College of Medicine faculty and Physicians Hospital at Kino in Tuscon, according to a report by the Arizona Daily Star.

The merger will bring the two groups together into a non-profit parent company, tentatively called University of Arizona Medicine.

The move is intended to streamline efficiencies and allow the group to be more competitive, according to the report.

The merger is expected to be complete by mid-summer.
