UnitedHealthcare, 5 other insurers hit with $755k in fines

CMS levied fines totaling $755,795 on six Medicare Advantage providers this week for giving inaccurate information about costs and benefits to policyholders.

This is the first time CMS has issued financial penalties for violations related to beneficiary notices in Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D since October 2013, according to a Law360 report.

Here are the six insurers that were penalized along with the amount each was fined.

  • Health Net of Arizona — $349,075
  • UnitedHealthcare of New York — $149,150
  • Indiana University Health Plan — $101,675
  • Atrio Health Plans — $69,405
  • Fallon Community Health Plan —$52,045
  • The Carle Foundation — $34,445
