UnitedHealth releases health disparities report: 5 things to know

UnitedHealth Group’s philanthropic foundation, the United Health Foundation, released its inaugural “America’s Health Rankings Health Disparities Report,” which was compiled using three decades of data, according to a June 29 news release.

Five things to know:

  1. Disparities in mental and behavioral health have worsened, particularly among those without a high school education and women.
  2. Black mothers face a maternal mortality rate that is 3.4 times higher than Hispanic mothers.
  3. Rates of maternal mortality increased 55 percent for white mothers, 23 percent for Hispanic mothers and 22 percent for Black mothers between 2005-2009 and 2015-2019.
  4. Disparities in household food insecurity grew most notably among American Indians and Alaska Natives, the statement said.
  5. Populations without a high school education face the largest health disparities.
