UnitedHealth names Optum CEO to group president role

UnitedHealth Group appointed Sir Andrew Witty as its president Nov. 11.

Sir Witty will serve as UnitedHealth’s president in addition to his role as CEO of Optum. As UnitedHealth president, he will manage business strategy, business development and partnerships for the health insurance company.

Sir Witty was named executive vice president of UnitedHealth and CEO of Optum in March 2018. Prior to that appointment, he was CEO and director of GlaxoSmithKline from 2008-17. 

Sir Witty joined GSK in 1985. He was knighted in 2012 for services to the U.K. economy.
