UNC Health Care Files CON for New Hospital

University of North Carolina Health Care announced that it has filed a certificate of need for a new hospital in Hillsborough, N.C., according to a report from The News of Orange County.

According to the repot, the new hospital would include a Level II emergency department, 68 existing beds transferred from UNC Hospitals’ main campus in Chapel Hill, 15 observation beds, six shared operating rooms, two general procedure rooms, a vascular and interventional radiology procedure room and a radiology procedure room.

In addition, officials said that the new hospital would employ 600 people, including 300 new hires.

The state has 150 days to review the application. UNC Health Care expects to begin construction in Feb. 2010, with completion target of Summer 2013.
