The two non-profit health systems previously filed for a merger, which was unsuccessful due to disagreements between the health systems and state officials regarding disclosure requirements, according to the report.
Leaders of the health systems said that they plan to develop a major medical center in Providence, and that the merger is will help the system withstand the economic downturn.
The Rhode Island Attorney General and Department of Health will review the application within 30 days.
