The two agencies, which have worked together on a communicable disease registry and disaster preparedness, discussed how to improve services and save money. Another option discussed aside from a merger was for Akron to contract with Summit County.
Both agencies offer communicable disease tracking, environmental services, birth and death certificates, nursing services and other community outreach, according to the report.
Summit County provides services to all Summit County communities except Akron and Barberton, which have their own departments. Barberton is still deciding whether it will merge with Summit County.
