The Domestic Policy Council and the Department of Justice are investigating policies and could announce potential changes within weeks, according to the report. Senior administration officials told the Post that the White House is particularly interested in drug policy from Singapore, where drug dealers can receive the death penalty.
Currently in the U.S., the death penalty only applies to the following drug-related offenses:
- Murder in a drive-by shooting
- Murder with a firearm, related to drug trafficking crime
- Murder related to drug trafficking
- Death of a law enforcement officer related to drug crime
