The University of Kansas Health System (Kansas City). Part of the University of Kansas Health System, University of Kansas Hospital, also known as KU Med, is ranked No. 1 in the state and nationally ranked in 11 specialties by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17. Since 1998, it has operated as an independent hospital authority, affiliated with but independent of its medical school, with no state funding. KU Med includes a Level I trauma center, advanced comprehensive stroke center and transplantation center. It is also the official healthcare provider of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
