The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. U.S. News & World Report ranked Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as the best program for pediatric orthopedics in the country for 2015-16. CHOP’s orthopedics program, which has provided care to children and young adults for 120 years, is one of the largest and most active pediatric orthopedic centers in the world. Clinicians in the hospital’s emergency department recently implemented a quality improvement project after seeing patients with a broken bone were sometimes waiting more than an hour for pain relief. The clinicians used data to identify why patients weren’t getting faster pain relief, then implemented changes. For instance, the group found ibuprofen works better than acetaminophen and is typically the more appropriate choice for children with fractures. CHOP has received Magnet accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
