Texas Hospital, Health System to Merge

Valley Baptist Health System, based in Harlingen, Texas, and Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas, have announced plans to merge, according to a report by the Valley Morning Star.

The hospitals, both non-profits, will form a new non-profit system, overseen by a new board of trustees. No job losses are expected in the merger, according to the report.

Valley Baptist and Knapp are moving toward a consolidation in order to increase efficiencies and improve healthcare access.

The merger still needs regulatory approval, but is expected to be completed by the end of summer, according to the report.
