Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital. Tampa General Hospital, a private, nonprofit academic medical center, is one of Florida’s largest hospitals with 1,011 licensed beds and about 7,300 employees. The hospital is located on the Davis Islands and is accessible by two bridges and four medical helicopters for critically ill patients. The facility is home to a Level I trauma center, a burn center, comprehensive stroke center, 32-bed neuroscience intensive care unit and an organ transplant center that has completed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants. U.S. News & World Report ranks Tampa General No. 3 in the state for 2016-17.
