In lieu of raises, employees will receive a lump sum payment "as a result of their hard work," according to the report. Employees were notified of the hiring freeze on Apr. 13.
In addition, Summa has asked all departments to develop cost-reduction plans and to freeze all non-emergency capital, stop discretionary travel and review all open positions before filling them. Employees are also urged to use their paid time off.
The cost-reduction measures will save Summa $30 million this year, and officials said in the report that patient care will not be affected.
