The study examined 623 patients and researchers said data revealed no differences in duration, difficulty of procedure, complications and patient pain between patients undergoing flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy who received IV sedation or nitrous oxide.
For patients receiving colonoscopies, the study revealed the use of nitrous oxide allowed for faster recovery and quicker discharge.
