The 2015 Louisiana State University-based survey does not account for the roughly 300,000 individuals added to the state’s Medicaid program since expansion was enacted July 1. As a result, the next survey may show a large uptick in insured adults, according to the report.
Here are three survey findings.
1. In 2015 the number of uninsured adults was 22.7 percent, up from 22 percent in 2013. There were 644,217 uninsured adults in 2015, up 22,000 from 2013.
2. Uninsured adults under 138 percent of the federal poverty line numbered 327,700 in 2015. As the state’s Medicaid expansion includes adults up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line, the survey will act as a benchmark for future comparisons.
3. The number of uninsured children was 3.8 percent last year, down from 4.4 percent in 2013. There were 45,000 uninsured children in 2015, down 7,000 from 2013.
