State Board Considering Consolidating Medical College of Georgia With Hospital, Physicians

A new governance proposal being considered by Georgia’s Board of Regents would create a new board to oversee a health system that includes the Medical College of Georgia, its affiliated hospital, clinics and physician groups, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ricardo Azziz, the president of the medical college, would oversee the new system under the proposed governance structure. Currently, the hospital and physicians do not report to the medical college president, according to the report.

Additional details on the proposal, which reflects efforts nationwide to integrate different components of the healthcare delivery system, are expected in May. The regents are expected to decide on a new governance structure at their June meeting, according to the report.
