Six New York Healthcare Providers Reimburse State $2.4M for Inflated Claims

Six healthcare providers in New York have reimbursed state officials more than $2.4 million in restitution and paid a combined $39,107 in fines for inflated billings submitted to the New York State Health Insurance Program, according to a report by Insurance & Financial Advisor.

The six providers were accused of inflating claims by waiving out-of-pocket costs for state and local government employees to attract them as patients while charging the state insurance program as if the fees were not waived, according to the report.

The claims were uncovered by the New York State Comptroller, which audits the NYSHIP program, according to the report.

Providers involved in the alleged inflated claims include Edward Fryman, a podiatrist at Seaford Foot Care Center in Seaford, N.Y; South Shore Ambulatory Surgery of Lynbrook, N.Y.; Fifth Avenue Surgery Center of New York City; Mount Kisco Surgery Center d/b/a The Ambulatory Surgery of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; Mount Kisco Medical Group of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; and Eye Surgery Center of Westchester, located in New Rochelle, N.Y.
