Scripps Health Enters Hospice Market as San Diego Provider Files for Bankruptcy

San Diego-based Scripps Health announced it will begin to offer hospice services.

Scripps acquired the hospice provider Horizon Hospice, which is based in Poway, Calif. The hospice company will continue to operate under its name but will be managed by Scripps, which plans to integrate Horizon fully into its system, according to the release. The hospice services will build off Scripps home healthcare services and palliative care program.

Meanwhile, another hospice provider in the area, San Diego Hospice, filed for bankruptcy protection to enable the organization to reorganize, according to a U-T San Diego report.
