SCL Health: Innovation Program

In 2015, SCL Health established its first system vice president of innovation, a role dedicated to accelerating identification, initiation and deployment of high-volume initiatives that improve access to care. Over the past four years, SCL Health’s innovation team has helped launch more than 15 enterprise initiatives, tested dozens of ventures and touched more than 100,000 patients through these efforts.

Within its innovation team, SCL Health started the Innovation Challenge, which provides up to $250,000 in funding for providers who develop novel ideas that address the patient journey outside the hospital.

Additionally, SCL has opened up 90 percent of primary care physicians’ schedules in Denver that provide patients easier access to care. Patients can go to an online portal to schedule appointments, digitally check and make payments. Later this year, SCL Health plans to increase its virtual health modalities and lower costs for patients with its electronic visit options.
