“People think we already are national because we have such a strong reputation,” Jill Selby told Becker’s Sept. 10. Ms. Selby is SCAN’s senior vice president of product development and market expansion. “A lot of our members leave California and they move to other states like Arizona, like Nevada, and they want to stay in SCAN. So it just gave us that extra emphasis to push on and go to Arizona and Nevada.”
The expansion, which will include an additional two counties in California, will bring the company’s total reach to an estimated 5 million customers across 17 markets in three states, according to a Sept. 9 news release.
Ms. Selby said the insurer plans to further its reach in multiple states over the next five years.
The company is also launching several new business initiatives, including Welcome Health, a medical group that will offer a combination of virtual and in-home primary care visits, and Healthcare in Action, a medical group that will provide healthcare to individuals experiencing homelessness.
“We know the homeless crisis is rampant across the U.S., so part of what is really going to be, I think, exciting and beneficial for seniors at large across the nation, is that not only are we taking the health plan, but we’re taking all these other senior-focused initiatives with us as we move into other states,” she said.
