The reduction is the hospital’s response to declining inpatient admissions, according to Deana Sievert, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president for patient care services at Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica. She added decreased inpatient admissions and lengths of stay are in part a result of more outpatient surgeries.
In addition to cutting ProMedica Flower Hospital’s ICU bed count in half, the ICU will be condensed from two floors to one, but offer the same ICU services.
Employees affected by the bed reduction, who are mostly ICU nurses and nursing assistants, have been offered jobs within the ProMedica system, either at Flower Hospital or another affiliated organization.
