St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix received a deadline extension to Tuesday to either meet Bishop Thomas Olmsted’s demands for moral teaching or lose its status as a Catholic hospital, according to USA Today report.

The reprieve was granted after Catholic Healthcare West, St. Joseph’s parent company, sent the bishop a letter late last week. Further detail on the letter’s content was not released, and diocesan officials announced nothing more than the new deadline.

Bishop Olmsted’s demands originate over a procedure performed at the hospital last year, which the bishop says violates Catholic healthcare directive.
