Pennsylvania Physician-Owned Hospital to Open in Advance of Dec. 31 Deadline

Advanced Surgical Hospital of Washington (County) in North Franklin, Pa., a 14-bed physician-owned hospital, will open next month, seven months in advance of the Dec. 31 deadline imposed by recent healthcare reform legislation, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Business Times.

The $20 million hospital is being spearheaded by 8 physician investors, all members of Advanced Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation. The facility will offer orthopedic procedures in addition to general surgery, ENT procedures and plastic surgery, according to the report.

Nearby Washington (Pa.) Hospital is concerned about the hospital’s opening as eight of the hospital’s ten orthopedic surgeons have invested in the facility.

The hospital is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year, according to the report.
