Pennsylvania Hospital Pays $1.9 Million to Settle Medicare Fraud Claims

St. Vincent Health System, based in Erie, Pa., will pay $1.9 million to the federal government to settle claims that it submitted fraudulent Medicare reimbursement claims, according to a press release from law firm Phillips & Cohen.

The hospital allegedly submitted claims to receive supplemental (“outlier”) payments exceeding the actual costs of treatment.

The “qui tam” (whistleblower) lawsuit was brought against the hospital by an independent hospital consultant from New Jersey.
