Police say 23-year-old Joseph Curet was arrested Friday after allegedly making several calls to 911, claiming he was going to shoot police officers. Police took Mr. Curet to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychological evaluation. While in the hospital’s ED, he was stabbed in his chest and arm by 36-year-old Tomas Berroa, according to WABC. A police officer guarding Mr. Curet subdued Mr. Berroa with help from the ED staff.
Mr. Berroa was also a patient at St. Barnabas Hospital, according to News 12. Authorities say it not clear why Mr. Berroa stabbed Mr. Curet.
St. Barnabas Hospital did not immediately respond to Becker’s Hospital Review‘s request for comment.
